I chose a lens based on the film we viewed, Flag Wars. The events and characters in the film were very powerful
and inspiring to me. I wanted to create a blog that allowed me to embody an
individual I imagine could have been present at the time of this film. I chose to take on the role of a 25 year old gay woman, Carrie, who just moved into Old Towne East, Columbus with my
partner of 5 years. I wanted this
project to be creative and give personal, yet fictional, accounts of what it
would be like to have a neighborhood reject any lifestyle they might not
agree with. A lot of personal
emotion and recollection was incorporated into this project because my family
has dealt with discrimination, rejection and hatred for a family member being
gay. I wanted to incorporate information from videos and articles
into this project to highlight the hardships that members of the gay community faced and are still facing. I am arguing against the hatred and I show important historical moments that impact the gay community and our country.
